The Importance of Self-Care

Self-care, self-care, self-care! I don’t care who you are, everyone needs it. Self-care has to do with taking care of yourself. Sure, that means making sure that you shower, eat healthy, exercise, and have basic hygiene skills, but I am also talking about those EXTRA self-cares. For me this includes bubble baths, scented candles, doing a face mask, spending time by myself, and being in nature. Just like everyone’s 5 point scale is different, self-cares are also very individualized. What works for me, may not work for you and it can take trying some new things to find what your specific self-cares are. Self-cares are those things that make you feel healthy, in control, and refreshed. Self-care needs to happen on a daily basis. Sometimes we make ourselves believe that we “don’t have time for self-care”, but there is ALWAYS time to do something small and amazing for yourself. Sometimes self-care can simply be saying “no” to something that you know will stress you out, that you don’t have time for, or you just don’t want to do. I don’t mean that you can say “no” to your parents when they tell you to do your chores, but it might include talking to them about how you have been feeling overwhelmed or you could ask them for some help completing the tasks that are otherwise your sole responsibility. Keep in mind, this won’t last forever, but might get you through your rough patch.
